Monthly Prayer Concert

Small group prayer at our first prayer concertSometime around the middle of 1999, the Lord began to impress on Dan the need for a regularly scheduled interdenominational prayer meeting in Hiroshima - a time and place where missionaries, Japanese pastors, and believers could join together in praying for Hiroshima, Japan, and the world. That fall Dan began talking with others about the idea and he got a very positive response. After a little more consultation and planning, on March 1st, 2000, we started a regular monthly event. Our "Prayer Concert" lasted two hours and consisted of times of prayer interspersed with praise and worship.  We rented a conference room in a public facility to make sure that the Prayer Concert was not perceived as any one church's event and so that we could move to larger rooms as we grew without changing the location. Karen's portable music setupKaren led the worship time, and Dan provided prayer focus topics as we prayed together, first as individuals, then as pairs praying for one another, and finally as small groups praying for Japan, missions, and the world. Since the first meeting in March of 2000, we continued to meet monthly for about two years, and we hope that one of the other missionaries or pastors that were attending will find the time to resume the events without us.  Response was always very positive, and we have even had the opportunity to take the Prayer Concert to a local church as a special Sunday morning service to help their congregation to focus more on prayer.
