Lending Library

Some of the best ideas are really simple.  A lending library of Christian tapes and books that we put out on a table at all of our classes and events got a lot of use from students and church members alike.  Most of the materials are in Japanese, but English students enjoy testing their English, so we offer a few things in English as well.  Some Chinese and Korean materials give us an international feel and are used by students from those countries who are studying in Japan.  To keep the library looking fresh and different, and to make it portable, we avoided using any shelves.  In Hiroshima the library stayed in five large shopping bags in the closet, and for every event we put out one or two bags worth of books and tapes on a table-top (the photo shows one bag).  Every time people saw the library it looked different - new books and a new display arrangement!  Our check-out book shows that, as of March 2002, the library had been used about 400 times by many different people, and we know the books and tapes have had a big spiritual impact on many people.  The original funds for the library came from a special financial gift from Petra Ambassador Church. Thank you, Petra!

When we left Hiroshima, we selected about half of the library resources to leave with the church, and they are continuing to display it at their events. The other half came with us to Osaka, and we will of course put it out when we begin to have cell church events here.
